The last nasi uduk side dish I am introducing is fried rice noodles, or bihun goreng in Indonesian. While rice noodles are undoubtedly Chinese – just like many other food out there – the Indonesians have their way to make it their own. This dish is really good and it can stand on its own, but it’s better served along with nasi uduk and the other side dishes.
The ingredients you need to make this dish:
1 pack of dried rice noodles
Half of white onion, sliced thinly
Sweet soy sauce (or kecap manis) – substitutable with regular soy sauce and sugar
A dash of sesame oil
Salt to taste
Spring onions for garnish
Steps to take to make fried rice noodles:
- Prepare a bowl of hot water and soak your rice noodles in it until it’s loose (around 3 minutes).
- Meanwhile, stir-fry the onion until it’s a bit translucent – then add in the rice noodles.
- Add in soy sauce, sesame oil, and some salt. Mix well. Be careful not to overcook the rice noodles or it will break apart really easily.
- Sprinkle with spring onion and it’s ready to be served.
